ALL-STARS GAMES HIGHLIGHTS – AUGUST 9-10-11

----------------

Reported by The Ancient Scottish Scorekeeper

Published by Tracy Ingebrigtsen

Stanford University – The Commish, after surveying the territory, established a new location for the 4 games of All-Star Week at the Sand Hill Fields. Situated southwest of the relocated Field B, the Sentinel calls it Field C. Before the start of each game this week, Commissioner Leander Robinson and the coaches handed out Millennium Shirts for each player. One set of shirts was marked with blue lettering on gray, the other with green lettering on khaki. In the absence of officially announced names for each team, we are using the colors of their shirts as team names. We apologize for not getting all players’ positions in the field.

The Most Valuable Player Trophy was awarded to Kate Palter, Gray’s backup pitcher.

We note that although Kate batted only .750, she nearly batted the cycle with a single, a triple, and a homerun. The Sentinel wishes to compliment all of the women who persevered through the long season on all teams. This all-star game saw several fine performances. For the Blue & Gray, Terri hit .800 with 3 singles and 1 grand slam homer. Both Kate and Terri batted in 4 runs each to lead the team to a one-run victory. Nancy batted a perfect 1.000. For the Green & Khaki, Ashley, Julie and Laura batted perfectly also, while Erin led both teams with a total of seven (7) runs batted in.

Thursday – August 10, 2000 – 5:30 p.m. – Field C – Commish’s Best of the Best Game

A large crowd turned out for the new "Best of the Best" game, the first of its kind in the history of the University, we believe. The tables, food and beverages were set up on the first base side of the diamond with many people sampling the bottled contents of the three ice-filled tubs on the west end of the buffet table. Julie Racioppi (Cardiology) and Bruce Wiggins (Hit & Run) coached the Blue team; Hank and Audrey Bayle (Howii 5-O), the Red team. The coaches took turns selecting the players and were pleased to find that each team had 17 players, ten men and seven women for each side. Julie won the coin toss, and the Blues trotted onto the field. For this game, the Commissioner suspended portions of Rules 8, 16, and 19. Men who walked with no strikes got only one base. Men could bat in succession without incurring an automatic out.

The Sentinel takes llittle or no responsibility for the spelling of names copied from llists that often made at the last minute.

Friday – August 11, 2000 – 5:30 p.m. – Field C – Annual Co-ed All-Star Game

The Green & Khaki team had 21 players in their dugout; the Blue & Gray had 20 players when umpire Bill Bell called, "Balls in. Batter up." With 41 players selected from among all league teams, the Commish announced that the game would go nine innings. Needless to say, with that many players in the act, the scorekeeper was not able to track who was when and when they were there, except that the batting order was followed to the best of everyone’s ability. Here are the runs scored by inning:

Game-winning RBI: Green & Khaki’s someone in the bottom of the 7th
LOB: Blue & Gray 15; Green & Khaki 5
LOB in Scoring Position: Blue & Gray11; Green & Khaki 5
2B: Blue & Gray 8; Green & Khaki 13
3B: Blue & Gray 1; Green & Khaki 5
HR: Green & Khaki 4
BB: Blue & Gray 7; Green & Khaki 2
K: Blue & Gray 5; Green & Khaki 2
Double Play – Blue & Gray in the bottom of the eighth inning

The most valuable players for the winning Green & Khaki team were Corey and Teesa.
