We are comprised primarily of graduate students and
postdocs in the laboratories
associated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Previous incarnations of this squad were known as "Old Pro's" until last
season when after being dumped by our sponsor, we were referred to as "The
Team Formerly Known As Old Pro's That Now Drinks At The Oasis". After much
deliberation it was decided that our name needed to be shorter so Mr. Hughes
lent us his name, if not his cash. However, the Palo Alto biotechnology
company Clontech was generous enough to sponsor us for this season. Nobody
seems to know how long this team has been in the league, but our recent
accomplishments include winning the championship of the B division in last
season's playoffs following a less than successful regular season and losing
(badly) to the Leaches in the A division championship game in 1996. Our
expectations for this year are to be the
muddiest and bloodiest team in the league and to
end the season in extra innings with a play at the plate.
Much of our high priced talent has graduated, so our team
will feature several new faces including the following:
Yvonne Franke
Yves Konigshofer
Mark Hiller
Sarah Brannen
Fan Fan
Joel Neilson
Liz Asaro
Steve Biggar
These people are veterans:
Liz Kerr
Athanasia Syrengelas
Julie Gastier
Jeff Foster
Srini Akkaraju
Rachel Crowley
Raul Felipa
Vanessa Lemahieu
Aude Fahrer
Our manager is Hank Bayle who accepts no responsibility
for any offensive actions, sounds or smells that may come from our team.
